MAKRINITSA PELION

Makrinitsa, known as "the balcony of Mount Pelion", is a traditional settlement of unique architectural character. It is 17 km far from Volos and 12km from the ski resort of Pelion and it is the perfect combination of the built and the natural environment.

"Brani", is an area of special natural beauty. It is a square with a gully in the entrance of the settlement of Makrinitsa. Also, there is another area of special natural beauty, the central paved square of the village, the famous"bargain" with the unique water fountain of "the Lions", decorated with rich stone sculptures, the old growth trees, the church of St. John and the amazing view of Volos.

A region characterized for its unique natural beauty is "Brani", the square in the entrance of the settlement with the stream, as well as the central square of the village Known as "Pazari" with its water fountain, "the lions", the longed lived platans, the church of S. John, the the amazing view to Volos. Of great beauty is the stream "Mega Rema" at the beginning of the river Krafsidona. In the altitude of Koukourava's neighborhood there are water mills (dristeles), tanneries that flourished in the 19th century and operated until the World War 2 in Karia are remarkable spesimens of Traditional Architecture.

PORTARIA PELION

The municipality consists of 4 villages:

Portaria, Ano Dryanouvena of Byzantines with the church of Panagia Portarea after which it was named, the source Mana, the platans and the ambulant waters.

Alli Meria: A newer traditional dorp. An old pasture that managed to become one of the most beautiful villages with flower cultures and an excellent view towards Volos.

Stagiates: with the source of its clean waters and its tradition on tasteful sausages and Katichori that has a reputation for the wine and the tsipouro, the amphitheatrical arrangement of its houses and the warm people.

Choose to travel alternatively with the train of Pelion through beautiful landscapes and traditional settlements on the route from Ano Lechonia to Milies.

Pelion is beautiful all year long. In winter, mountain biking and endless walks in the picturesque alleys accompanied by your camera will compensate you.

Ski enthusiasts can enjoy the snow in the the ski resort of Agriolefkes, one of the most famous in Greece. Snowfall usually begins in late November and can last until March.
